About Greg Courtepatte
I tend to notice the business sitting between businesses — and then start drawing the line that connects them.
The short answer
Greg Courtepatte is a deal mapper based in Alberta, Canada. He helps people and businesses find the side of a deal they’re missing — the buyers, the product, the distribution, or the relationship — and helps move a first useful deal with whoever already holds it.
What I actually do
One company has the buyers. Another has the product. One has the audience, another the expertise. One has spare capacity, and somewhere close by is a business that already talks to the customers who could fill it.
Most people look at those as separate businesses. I tend to start drawing lines between them. That’s Deal Mapping: figuring out what side of a deal you already have, what’s missing, who already has it, and whether there’s a useful deal worth building between you.
Most people see separate pieces. I start drawing lines between them.
How I work
I like figuring out what each side actually wants, why the connection makes sense, and what I can do to move it far enough that we stop guessing. The first move should create value, not homework — researching the companies you most want, finding the right person inside them, learning what they’re trying to accomplish, and bringing back a conversation that’s actually worth having.
Sometimes it becomes a referral. Sometimes sponsorship, distribution, licensing, revenue share, or something nobody would have named at the start. Sometimes there’s no deal at all — and that’s useful to know too, before anyone spends months on it.
What I believe about deals
A deal that hurts trust is a bad deal, however good the numbers look. If a relationship is already working well, I’m not looking for a reason to wedge myself into it. And before anyone builds another thing from scratch, it’s worth asking whether the pieces they’ve already paid for — the customer base, the reputation, the relationships, the expertise — have another useful commercial life first.
